Revelation 6 — How Long, O Lord, Holy and True
The Lamb opens the seals. The white horse — conquest. The red horse — peace taken from the earth. The black horse — famine. The pale horse — death and hell. The fifth seal — souls under the altar — how long, O Lord? The sixth seal — earthquake, sun black, moon blood, stars fall, heaven departs as a scroll, kings and slaves hide — the great day of his wrath is come.
“And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?”

The cry of the martyrs. How long? — the prayer of the righteous through every age of injustice. Heaven hears the question; the answer is yet a little season (v.11). The day comes.
God is holy and true — and just. The waiting does not deny His justice; it qualifies the timing. Vindication is delayed, not denied.
The unanswered question of the chapter. The next chapter answers it — those sealed of God, and the great multitude clothed in the blood-washed robe. The standing is by His preservation, not human strength.
Wrath of the Lamb. A jarring phrase. The Lamb who was slain wields wrath. The same Christ who bled is the One whose wrath is to be feared. Sentimentality cannot survive this verse.
Verse 10 dignifies your grief over injustice. How long, O Lord? is a prayer heaven hears, not a complaint to suppress. Bring the question to Him; trust the timing to Him. Vindication is coming; the wait is real and bounded.
The Lamb who opens the seals is the same Lamb who was slain. The judgments come from the One who first bore them. The chapter shows that the cross was not a softening of God's wrath but its substitutionary bearing; rejected, the wrath remains, and the Lamb wields it.
The fourth horseman names what the others bring — Death, with Hell at his heels. The horsemen are not random; they are the convergence of conquest, war, famine, and mortality.
Power was given. Even the horsemen do not ride autonomously. Their authority is granted. The chaos has limits set by the throne.
