Hebrews 3 — Today, If Ye Will Hear His Voice, Harden Not Your Hearts
Holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus. He was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, as he who hath built the house hath more honour than the house. Moses was faithful as a servant; Christ as a Son over His own house. Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith) — Today, if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts as in the provocation. Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God. We are made partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end.

Whose house are we. The believing community is the house Christ rules over. Not a building, not an institution — a people.
If we hold fast. The conditional is real. Endurance is the mark of belonging; falling away exposes what was never rooted (cf. 1 John 2:19).
Exhort one another daily. The Christian life is a body sport. We harden alone; we soften in company. The verse should reorder small-group priorities.
Deceitfulness of sin. Sin's primary mode is lying. It makes itself look harmless, necessary, deserved. The remedy is daily mutual exhortation — Christians telling each other the truth before sin's lies set.
The wilderness generation's tomb. They had Moses, miracles, manna — and unbelief. The privileged generation did not enter. Hebrews uses them as warning to its readers.
Religious advantages do not save. Israel had the most; they entered not. The verse implies that today's churched person can perish at the threshold of the promise if his heart never believed.
Verse 13 turns Christian community from optional to medicinal. Daily. Find at least one believer in your life with whom you exchange honest exhortation. Hardening happens to the isolated; softness is maintained in fellowship. The verse is a prescription against your own drift.
Christ is the Son over the house, greater than Moses, the Apostle and High Priest of our profession. He is the One considered in the chapter's opening word. The chapter's warnings against unbelief are the dark side of the chapter's commendation of Christ — to refuse Him is to remain in the wilderness; to trust Him is to enter the rest He has prepared.
Consider. The verb is fix-your-mind-on. Hebrews' running discipline. Christian struggle is healed by attention to Christ.
Apostle and High Priest. The two halves of His mediation — sent from God to men (apostle), and from men to God (priest). Only Christ holds both.
