Matthew 7 — By Their Fruits Ye Shall Know Them
Judge not. The mote and the beam. Ask, seek, knock — every one that asketh receiveth. The Golden Rule — whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them. Two ways, two gates — strait and narrow leads to life; wide and broad to destruction. False prophets known by fruits. Not every one that saith Lord, Lord enters the kingdom — I never knew you: depart from me. The wise man builds on rock; the foolish on sand. The people are astonished at His doctrine.

The Golden Rule. Christ summarizes the law and prophets' ethical thrust in one positive command. Other religions have approximations; Jesus states it as obligation, not preference.
A test reaching every relationship — would I want this done to me? If no, do not do it. The rule is simple, demanding, and unfinished in any life this side of glory.
Strait — narrow. The gate is tight; the way restrictive; the finders few. Christianity is the road for a minority, not because God's love is narrow but because the gate is.
Popularity is not evidence of truth in the kingdom. A church that defines itself by majority opinion may be on the broad way. The narrow road requires deliberate, often costly choosing.
The most sobering verse in the chapter. They prophesied, cast out devils, did wonders in His name — and He says I never knew you. Ministry done in His name without belonging to Him.
The test of true Christianity is not the spectacular but the personal — did He know you? Knowledge here is relational, not informational. Make sure of the Person, not just the productivity.
The whole sermon ends here. The difference between the wise and foolish is not hearing — both hear — but doing. Knowledge of the Sermon on the Mount is insufficient; the discipline is obedience.
The storms come on both houses. The wise builder is not spared the weather; he is spared the collapse. Christianity is not freedom from storms; it is rest on the foundation that holds in them.
Verse 23 deserves a sober reading. Some who appeared zealous for Christ are told they were not known. Pray honestly: do I know Him, and does He know me? Not are my activities Christian, not is my doctrine Christian — but does He know me as His own? That is the test for which obedience is the evidence.
The Sermon on the Mount ends at the Builder. The wise man is the one who hears and does His sayings. The foundation is His teaching enacted, which is Himself entered into. He is the rock; the obedient life is the house. Storms cannot bring down what is built on Him.
Jesus does not forbid noticing faults; He forbids the order of an unexamined critic. First deal with yourself; then you may help your brother.
The implication is that, after the beam is gone, the speck is still to be addressed. The verse is not a license for permissive non-judgment; it is an order of operations for honest love.
