John 6 — I Am the Bread of Life
Five thousand fed with five barley loaves and two small fishes. They would make Him a king; He departs alone. Walking on the sea — It is I; be not afraid. The next day the crowd seeks Him. Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life. I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him. This is an hard saying; many of His disciples went back. Will ye also go away? Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.

A double assurance. All that the Father giveth will come — divine sovereignty in salvation. Him that cometh I will in no wise cast out — gracious welcome to every comer.
No tension for the believer. Whether you come because the Father drew you or because you decided — you will find the door open. The two truths are friends.
Draw him. The Greek implies pulling, even compelling. Conversion has a divine impulse behind it.
I will raise him up at the last day. The drawn one is preserved to the end. The Christian's security runs from the Father's drawing to the Son's raising.
Peter's reply when many had walked away. He does not say I am happy with this teaching; he says to whom shall we go? The negative comparison binds him to Christ.
A useful question in dark hours. When the church is hard, the doctrine is steep, the cost is real — to whom shall we go? The alternatives all empty out. He alone has the words.
Verse 68 is the verse for the day you wonder if Christianity is too hard. The honest answer is — yes, and to whom shall we go? The alternatives are all empty. The very difficulty drives you back to the only One with the words of eternal life. Stay.
John 6 is the chapter where many disciples left. Christ's claims thinned the crowd. The Bread of Life is too demanding for the half-hearted. But for those who stayed, He was the only place to go. The chapter both purifies and confirms; the church that remains is the church that has chosen Him over every alternative.
The first of John's seven I am sayings. Bread of life — He sustains, not merely feeds. The believer who comes to Him is fed continuously.
Never hunger... never thirst. Two universals. The bread He gives does not have to be sought elsewhere. Stop trying to satisfy in lesser kitchens.
