1 Corinthians 11 — Let a Man Examine Himself
Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. The head of every man is Christ; the head of the woman is the man; the head of Christ is God. Concerning head coverings in worship. As I praise you not — first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you. The Lord Jesus the same night in which He was betrayed took bread. This is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. This cup is the new testament in my blood. As often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come. Whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself.

Shew the Lord's death. Each communion proclaims the cross. The Supper is a sermon in symbol.
Till he come. The Supper looks both backward (the cross) and forward (His return). It is the church's rhythm between the comings.
Examine himself. Self-inspection before participation. Not to qualify worthiness — none would qualify — but to ensure the heart's posture is right.
The verse cures both casual and crippling approaches. Honest examination, repentance where needed, then eat. Not skipping; not pretending.
Verse 28's self-examination is the right preparation for the Lord's Supper. Not to disqualify yourself but to come honestly. Examine; repent; eat. The table is for sinners — but for sinners who own their need.
1 Corinthians 11 hands the church its central rite — the Supper that shows His death until He comes. Christ's body and blood are the substance of Christian fellowship. The chapter's warnings preserve the meal's seriousness; its words preserve its tenderness.
For you. Substitution stated. The body is broken on the believer's behalf.
In remembrance of me. The Supper is memorial — and more. Christ is present in His own way as His people remember Him.
