Psalms 22 — My God, My God, Why Hast Thou Forsaken Me?
My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? I am a worm, and no man. All they that see me laugh me to scorn. They pierced my hands and my feet. They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture. Be not thou far from me, O Lord. I will declare thy name unto my brethren. All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the Lord. A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation. They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this.

A prophecy that singled out a specific death long before its instrument existed.
Fulfilled at the foot of the cross (John 19:23-24). The soldiers gambled for His coat — the psalm wrote the scene.
A specific prediction. The smallest details of the passion were not random.
The psalm's ending turns missionary. The forsaken One's vindication will reach every nation.
The cross produces the Great Commission. The psalm anticipates the worldwide reach of the gospel.
Read Psalm 22 alongside the gospel passion accounts. The detail will astound you. The God who wrote the script of the cross a thousand years before its enactment is the God you trust.
Psalm 22 is the cross psalm. Christ prayed its opening line. The pierced hands, the parted garments, the worldwide harvest — all are Him. The whole chapter is Calvary in advance.
The cry Christ prayed on the cross (Matthew 27:46). The psalm anticipates the crucifixion in striking detail.
Why? The believer is permitted to ask. Christ Himself did.
