Ephesians 2 — परन्तु परमेश्वर, जो दया में धनी है

Summary

पौलुस विश्वासी की पूर्व-धर्म-परिवर्तन की स्थिति को सबसे कठोर शब्दों में चित्रित करता है: अपराधों में मरे हुए, संसार की चाल पर चलनेवाले, क्रोध की सन्तान। फिर बाइबल के सबसे शक्तिशाली शब्द आते हैं — परन्तु परमेश्वर। दया में धनी, उसने मरे हुओं को मसीह के साथ जीवित किया। अनुग्रह से विश्वास द्वारा तुम बचाए गए हो।

1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins.

मरे हुए — कमज़ोर नहीं, बीमार नहीं, ठोकर खाते नहीं। मरे हुए। स्थिति पूर्ण अक्षमता है, आंशिक कमी नहीं।

जीवित किया — जीवन दिया। क्रिया उत्पत्ति 2:7 की प्रतिध्वनि करती है जहाँ परमेश्वर ने मिट्टी में फूँक मारी।

2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience.

Three influences before conversion: the course of this world (the human current we drift in), the prince of the power of the air (Satan), the spirit that worketh in the children of disobedience (the inner pull of our own rebellion). All three operate at once.

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

The motive God excludes. Boasting in heaven is impossible because boasting in heaven is forbidden by the way salvation came.

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

Far off — outside the covenants, the prophets, the temple. Gentile distance described in spatial terms.

The blood does not just save individuals; it bridges nations. Distance is collapsed in the cross.

14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us.

बीच की दीवार — यरूशलेम के मन्दिर में अन्यजातियों के आँगन में एक वास्तविक दीवार थी, जिसमें मृत्यु की चेतावनी देने वाले शिलालेख थे। शायद पौलुस इसी दीवार का सोच रहा था। क्रूस ने उसे गिरा दिया।

वही हमारा मेल है — केवल बनाता नहीं। है।
