Matthew 24 — Watch Therefore: For Ye Know Not What Hour Your Lord Doth Come
Leaving the temple, the disciples admire the buildings. Jesus — not one stone shall be left on another. On Olivet they ask about His coming and the end of the world. Beginnings of sorrows — false christs, wars, famines, earthquakes. He that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. The abomination of desolation; flee. False christs and false prophets shall arise. After the tribulation, the sign of the Son of Man — every eye shall see. The fig tree. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. The day and hour none knoweth. The faithful and unfaithful servants.

The mission and the end are joined. The gospel goes to all nations, and then the end comes. The world's history has a directional thrust shaped by the spread of the gospel.
A check on apocalyptic withdrawal. The end is not waited for in idleness; it is approached by preaching. The Great Commission is the end's timeline.
All the tribes of the earth shall mourn. The coming is unmistakable and universal. There is no debate among observers; the only response is mourning for those unprepared.
Christ's second coming will leave no opinion-space. The hidden Lord becomes the manifest King. Every knee will bow then; the wise bow now.
The cosmos is more fragile than His sentences. Build your life on what does not pass.
Anchor for every disciple. Plans built on shifting ground go down with the ground; lives built on His words stand.
Watchfulness is the disposition that matches the unknown hour. Christianity lives between the comings — His first and His next — and the awareness of the second shapes every day of the gap.
Not anxious watching but ready watching. The faithful servant is found doing his work (vv.45-46); the unfaithful presumes time enough to misuse it.
Verse 42 settles the disciple's posture. Watch — not anxious calculation, but ready service. Whatever your work is today, do it as one whose Master may return before sundown. The unknown hour is the very reason for steady work, not for paralysis or escapism.
Matthew 24 is the King describing the days between His comings. The same Lord who told this on Olivet will return on those clouds. The chapter's mood is sober but anchored — His words will not pass; His coming is sure; His servants are watched for and rewarded. The discourse is the Master's preparation of His household.
Endurance is the mark of the saved, not the cause. The verse is hope for the persecuted: hold on; the end is salvation, not loss.
Apostasy is the test's downward outcome. The genuine saint endures, by grace; the falling away exposes what was never rooted.
