Psalms 57 — In the Shadow of Thy Wings Will I Make My Refuge

Summary

Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee. In the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast. I will cry unto God most high. My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise. Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens; let thy glory be above all the earth.

Key verse

“My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise.”

— Psalm 57:7

Verse-by-verse
1 Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast.

Until these calamities be overpast. A bounded shelter. The storm has an end; the refuge is until it does.

A perspective for hard seasons. The wings cover until the storm ends. Stay under them.

7 My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise.

My heart is fixed. The repetition stresses settled resolve. The heart is anchored against the storm.

A discipline. Fix the heart; the song follows. The settled will produce the song.
