Psalms 40 — He Brought Me Up Also Out of an Horrible Pit
I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth. Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened. Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me, I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart. I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart.

Quoted in Hebrews 10:7 about Christ. Lo, I come... I delight to do thy will. The psalm prophesies the Messiah's mission.
Thy law is within my heart. The new covenant ideal — the law internalized, not just imposed.
Verse 2 gives hope to the pit-dweller. He brings up; He sets on a rock; He establishes; He gives a new song. Wherever you are, the next motion is on its way.
Verse 8 is Christ's mission statement, quoted in Hebrews 10. Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. The whole incarnation is in this line.
Four motions — brought up, set on a rock, established goings, put a new song. The deliverance produces stable progress and song.
A pattern. From the pit to the rock to the road to the song. Wherever you are in the sequence, the next motion is promised.
