2 Corinthians 4 — We Faint Not
Seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not. If the gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost, in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not. For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us — troubled on every side, yet not distressed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed. Our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.

Conversion is a second Genesis. The same voice that said Let there be light speaks into the dark heart, and there is light. Regeneration is not persuasion but creation.
In the face of Jesus Christ. The knowledge of God's glory has an address — a face. We do not know God in the abstract; we know Him in the countenance of His Son.
Clay pots carrying glory — the deliberate mismatch is the point. God stores His treasure in fragile, common containers so that no one mistakes the power for the pot.
Your weakness is not an obstacle to usefulness; it is the design specification. The cracked vessel lets the light out.
Two simultaneous processes: the outward man decaying, the inward man renewing. Aging and affliction wear the body; grace daily refreshes the soul. The believer's trajectory is upward through decline.
Day by day — renewal is a daily mercy, like manna. Yesterday's renewal does not carry today; the inward man must return to the source each morning.
Paul piles up superlatives — far more exceeding, literally hyperbole upon hyperbole. Set affliction and glory on the scales: the one is light and momentary, the other an eternal weight.
Worketh for us. Affliction is not merely endured on the way to glory; it produces it. Suffering is not the toll road to reward — it is the engine that works the weight.
The verdict of verse 17 only computes from this vantage. Affliction looks light only when weighed against the unseen. Faith is the discipline of looking at what cannot be looked at.
Temporal... eternal. The visible world is the passing one; the invisible is the permanent. Sight inverts reality; faith corrects the inversion.
Rename your trials with Paul's bookkeeping: light, but for a moment, working glory. This is not denial — Paul's afflictions were crushing (1:8). It is accounting done from eternity. Then practice verse 18: spend time deliberately looking at unseen things, for only that gaze makes the arithmetic believable.
The glory of God shines in the face of Jesus Christ (v. 6), and the dying of the Lord Jesus is borne in the body so His life may be manifest (v. 10). The pattern of Christ — death working life — is reproduced in every vessel that carries Him.
Unbelief is not merely intellectual; it is a blindness inflicted. Satan's great work is not making people wicked but keeping them dark — specifically blocking the sight of Christ's glory.
The god of this world — Satan's real but limited and temporary dominion. The blindness he causes is why argument alone never converts; only God's creative light (v. 6) opens eyes.
