1 Corinthians 2 — I Determined Not to Know Any Thing Among You, Save Jesus Christ, and Him Crucified
When I came to you, I came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom. I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling: that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. We speak the wisdom of God in a mystery. Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit. The natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God. He that is spiritual judgeth all things... But we have the mind of Christ.

God's preparations exceed all human imagination. Whatever you can picture about heaven, the reality is larger.
Often misapplied as a verse about the future. Verse 10 corrects: God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit. The Spirit gives sight to what is otherwise unseen.
Natural man... cannot. Without the Spirit, the things of God are inaccessible. Not difficult — impossible.
The verse explains why intelligent unbelievers cannot follow simple Christian doctrines. The faculty for receiving them is missing without the Spirit.
We have the mind of Christ. A breath-taking claim. The believer thinks God's thoughts after Him through the Spirit and the Word.
A check on Christian humility. Yes, you have the mind of Christ — but only when conformed to His thoughts through Scripture, not when projecting your own.
Verse 2 is the discipline of the Christian witness. I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. The hundreds of secondary topics will compete for the pulpit and the conversation. The discipline is to keep the main thing main.
1 Corinthians 2 keeps Christ crucified at the center. The wisdom of God, the work of the Spirit, the mind given to believers — all flow from Him. The chapter is Paul's refusal to substitute philosophy for the gospel.
I determined. A deliberate choice. Paul could have impressed with rhetorical philosophy; he refused.
Jesus Christ, and him crucified. The single content. Every other concern was secondary to the central one.
