Hosea 7 — They Are All Adulterers, as an Oven Heated By the Baker
When I would have healed Israel, then the iniquity of Ephraim was discovered. They consider not in their hearts that I remember all their wickedness. They are all adulterers, as an oven heated by the baker. Ephraim is a cake not turned. Strangers have devoured his strength, and he knoweth it not: yea, gray hairs are here and there upon him, yet he knoweth not. They return, but not to the most High: they are like a deceitful bow.

Decline without awareness. The strength has gone; the symptoms of age have arrived; the man does not see what is happening to him.
A warning. Spiritual decline is often gradual and unnoticed by the one declining. Self-honesty is part of staying healthy.
Verse 8 examines your half-bakedness. Which side is burnt with religion and which side is still raw with the world? Turn the cake. Bring the raw parts under His fire.
Christ would have the cake turned fully — every side under His refining heat. The chapter's diagnosis points to His call for whole-hearted discipleship.
A cake not turned. Burnt on one side, raw on the other. Spiritual half-bakedness — religious in form, unchanged in substance.
A vivid image for the half-converted life. Some parts of life are charred with religion; others are still raw with the world.
