Hebrews 13 — Jesus Christ the Same Yesterday, and To Day, and For Ever
Let brotherly love continue. Be not forgetful to entertain strangers — some have entertained angels unawares. Remember them that are in bonds. Marriage is honourable in all. Let your conversation be without covetousness; I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. Remember them which have the rule over you. Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. We have an altar whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle. Let us go forth therefore unto Him without the camp, bearing His reproach. By Him let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually. Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do His will. Grace be with you all.

The cure for covetousness is not self-discipline but the presence of God. Be content is grounded in he hath said, I will never leave thee. When God is enough, things stop demanding.
A quoted promise. He hath said. The contentment rests on a sentence God spoke (Deuteronomy 31:6, Joshua 1:5). Anchor your peace in His promise, not your portfolio.
The most quoted single sentence in Hebrews. Whatever changes — leaders die, doctrines drift, cultures shift — He does not. The believer's anchor in flux is Christ's constancy.
Three tenses, one Christ. The Saviour of the patriarchs is the Saviour of today and the Saviour of forever. The biography of God's people across time has one continuous Lord.
Without the camp. Christ was crucified outside Jerusalem. The believer's identification with Him sometimes means going outside the religious establishment to find Him.
Bearing his reproach. The disgrace He bore is what we are called to share. Christianity divorced from reproach is not the Christianity of Hebrews 13.
The benediction of Hebrews. God of peace — the One who brings reconciliation. Brought again from the dead — the resurrection plainly stated. Great shepherd — the Lord of the sheep, naming the believer as one.
Through the blood of the everlasting covenant. The whole book in a phrase. The covenant Hebrews has unfolded is eternal; the blood that ratified it is Christ's.
Verse 8 should be the disciple's daily anchor. Whatever has changed today — at work, in the family, in the world — Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. Build the hours on that constancy. The verse is not theology; it is the steady ground under your feet.
Hebrews closes with the unchanging Christ, the great Shepherd brought from the dead, the blood of the everlasting covenant. Everything the book has built — the better priest, the better sacrifice, the better covenant, the better hope — is consolidated in the closing benediction. The Christ of Hebrews is the Christ of your life, your church, your eternity. Grace be with you all.
Entertain strangers. Christian hospitality reaches outside the circle of friends. The stranger is the special object; the comfortable friend is not the test.
Angels unawares. An echo of Genesis 18 (Abraham) and 19 (Lot). The unrecognized guest may carry weights you do not know. Treat the stranger like the angel.
