Hosea 2 — I Will Allure Her, and Bring Her Into the Wilderness, and Speak Comfortably Unto Her
Plead with your mother. She said, I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water. Therefore, behold, I will hedge up thy way with thorns. Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her. I will betroth thee unto me for ever. Thou shalt know the Lord. A new betrothal. After the breach, He marries her again — and forever this time. The terms are righteousness, judgment, lovingkindness, mercies.
A picture of the new covenant. The unfaithful bride is taken back, and the marriage is established on God's character.
Verse 14 reframes a current wilderness. He may be alluring you. The desert is sometimes the bedroom of fresh love. Listen for what He is speaking there.
The forever betrothal in righteousness is the church's relationship to Christ. He is the bridegroom; she is the bride. The chapter's promise is fulfilled in Him.
Allure... bring into the wilderness... speak comfortably. The pattern of restoration. God isolates to woo; the wilderness becomes the place of fresh love.
A perspective for hard seasons. The wilderness may be His allurement — taking you aside to speak.
