Romans 11 — For of Him, and Through Him, and to Him, Are All Things
Hath God cast away His people? God forbid. I also am an Israelite. At this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. They were broken off because of unbelief; thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear. God is able to graft them in again. Blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. And so all Israel shall be saved. For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all. O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.

Without repentance. God does not revoke His gifts and calling. The promises made to Israel still hold; God's faithfulness does not depend on the recipient's.
A comfort for the believer too. Whatever calling God has placed on your life remains. He does not change His mind about you.
Paul has been arguing for chapters about election, hardening, and mercy. He ends in worship, not in resolution. Some of God's ways exceed our grasp.
A model for the believer at the edge of theology. The proper response to mystery is doxology, not protest.
Of him. The source. Through him. The means. To him. The end. Every existing thing has these three relationships to God.
A capstone for any Christian view of life. Your life of Him, through Him, to Him. Live with the prepositions firmly in place.
Verse 36 reorders today's tasks. Whatever you are doing, do it of, through, and to God. The pile of duties becomes worship when the prepositions are right. Test today's plan by the three words.
Romans 11 ends Paul's long argument with worship — and the worship is directed at the God who is of, through, and to whom are all things. The same God Paul has been describing is the God revealed in Christ. The chapter's doxology covers the whole letter and the whole Christian life.
Goodness and severity. Both must be held. Sentimental theology drops the severity; harsh theology forgets the goodness. The verse holds both at the same time.
If thou continue. A warning against Gentile presumption. The branches grafted in can also be cut off. The faith that received the grafting must continue.
