Romans 5 — God Commendeth His Love Toward Us, In That, While We Were Yet Sinners, Christ Died For Us
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. We glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; patience, experience; experience, hope. God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. By one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned. Much more they which receive abundance of grace shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ. Where sin abounded, grace did much more abound.

Hope maketh not ashamed. Christian hope is not put to shame because its basis is God's love, demonstrated and felt.
Love of God... shed abroad in our hearts. The Spirit is the inner witness of the Father's love. The believer feels what the gospel announces.
God's love demonstrated, not just declared. The proof of His love is the dying of Christ for sinners, before any repair on our side.
While we were yet sinners. The timing matters. He did not wait for us to clean up. He acted when we were enemies.
The law entered that the offence might abound. The law's purpose was to expose sin, not to cure it. By raising the standard, it made transgression undeniable.
Where sin abounded, grace did much more abound. The chapter's great line. Grace is not just sufficient — it overflows the sin it covers.
Verse 8 is the verse for the day you feel God might have given up on you. He demonstrated His love when you were a sinner. He did not change His mind. The cross is the proof; it is older than your worst day. Receive the verse against your accusing thoughts.
Romans 5 unfolds the consequences of justification — peace, hope, love, security. Every benefit flows through Christ. Adam plunged humanity into sin; Christ raises His own into life. The chapter's comparison is the architecture of redemption: in Adam, death; in Christ, life eternal.
Peace with God. The first benefit of justification. Not merely the peace of God (Philippians 4:7), but peace with God — the war is over.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ. The Mediator named. The peace flows through Him, not around Him.
