Psalms 90 — Teach Us To Number Our Days
Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God. Thou turnest man to destruction. For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past. The days of our years are threescore years and ten. So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. O satisfy us early with thy mercy.
“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”
— Psalm 90:12
- v.1-6 God eternal; man transient
- v.7-12 Number our days
- v.13-17 Satisfy us early
Number our days. The wise know their days are bounded. The verse is the discipline against waste.
Apply our hearts unto wisdom. The fruit of counting. The numbered days produce a wise heart.
Verse 12 is a prayer for the unhurried wise. Teach us to number our days. Without the numbering, the days are wasted.
Christ's numbered days were given for our wisdom (John 9:4). The chapter's prayer is His pattern.

From everlasting to everlasting. The eternity of God. Before, during, after the cosmos — He is.
A perspective. Whatever rises and falls in your lifetime, He stands before and after.
