Psalms 3 — Salvation Belongeth Unto the Lord
A psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son. Lord, how are they increased that trouble me. But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me. I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people. Salvation belongeth unto the Lord: thy blessing is upon thy people.

Salvation belongeth unto the Lord. The conclusion. Not to armies, not to allies — to the Lord.
Selah. A pause. Hold this thought. The verse wants to be sat with, not just read.
Verse 5 is the bedtime confession for the worried. Whatever rises tomorrow, the Lord sustains the night. Sleep is a small act of faith you can practice this evening.
David fleeing his rebellious son anticipates the greater Son who would sleep through a storm trusting the Father (Mark 4:38). Salvation belongs to the Lord, fulfilled in Christ.
A king on the run sleeps. The verse is the testimony of trust under threat. The Lord watches over the night so you can.
A model for the anxious bedtime. Sleep is itself a confession of faith — handing the night over to the One who keeps you.
