Micah 1 — The Lord Cometh Forth Out of His Place
The word of the Lord that came to Micah of Moresheth in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, concerning Samaria and Jerusalem. Hear, all ye people; hearken, O earth. Behold, the Lord cometh forth out of his place, and will come down, and tread upon the high places of the earth. The mountains shall be molten under him. For the transgression of Jacob is all this. Samaria shall become as an heap of the field. The wound is incurable; it is come unto Judah, unto the gate of my people, even to Jerusalem.

Prophetic diagnosis. The capitals embody the corruption. The leadership cities — Samaria, Jerusalem — are themselves the transgression.
A check on national religion. When the official city becomes the high place of false worship, the rot has reached the top.
Micah opens with God coming down. When national religion has been corrupted at its center, God does not delegate the cleansing. Whatever city or institution you trust to be safe, only His descent finally purifies. Pray for His coming with reverence.
The Lord who came down in judgment on Samaria and Jerusalem is the same Lord who came down in mercy at Bethlehem (Micah 5:2). The God of descent has shown two faces — the trampling of idolatry and the saving of His people through His Son.
Cometh forth out of his place. God leaves the heavenly throne to act in history. The descent is the prelude to judgment.
Tread upon the high places. The idolatrous worship sites get trampled by the One they sought to replace.
