Psalms 38 — For Mine Iniquities Are Gone Over Mine Head
O Lord, rebuke me not in thy wrath. There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger. For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me. My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness. My lovers and my friends stand aloof. I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me. For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin. Forsake me not, O Lord. Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.

Declare... be sorry. The two halves of repentance. Speak it out; feel it through.
A discipline against minimizing. Name the specific iniquity; sorrow for it; bring it to God.
Verse 4 lets you feel what is true. The iniquities are heavy; do not pretend otherwise. The chapter is for the day the conscience is loud. Speak the iniquity; bring it to Him.
Christ bore the iniquities that went over the psalmist's head. The burden too heavy for the sinner was carried by Him.
The honest weight of sin felt. Most fight to suppress the awareness; the psalmist names it.
A model of repentance. Feel the weight before you take it to the cross.
