A spot on the lake's north-west shore honoured since the Byzantine period as the place of the feeding of the five thousand, and of the risen Jesus's breakfast with his disciples and the restoration of Peter. The Church of the Multiplication preserves a famous fifth-century mosaic of a basket of loaves flanked by two fish. The tradition here is genuinely ancient; the tie to the exact shore remains traditional.
