The height from which Moses, at the end of his life, looked across at the Promised Land he would not enter. Nebo is a real summit in Jordan with exactly the sweeping view Deuteronomy describes — over the Jordan Valley to Jericho and, on a clear day, toward Jerusalem. A Byzantine church and mosaics crown it, marking the memory since ancient times.
