Psalms 96 — Sing Unto the Lord a New Song
O sing unto the Lord a new song: sing unto the Lord, all the earth. Sing unto the Lord, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people. For all the gods of the nations are idols. Give unto the Lord, O ye kindreds of the people, give unto the Lord glory and strength. Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name. Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. Say among the heathen that the Lord reigneth.
“O sing unto the Lord a new song: sing unto the Lord, all the earth. Sing unto the Lord, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day.”
— Psalm 96:1-2
- v.1-6 Sing a new song
- v.7-13 Worship in holiness
The beauty of holiness. A combination most modern worship has lost. Holiness is beautiful; beauty is holy.
A check on entertainment-style worship. The beauty the chapter calls for is holiness, not aesthetics divorced from it.
Verse 3 is the church's missionary command in the Psalter. Declare His glory among the nations. Pick one nation; pray; give.
The new song the nations sing is to the Lamb (Revelation 5:9). The chapter's missionary command is fulfilled in His Great Commission.

Declare his glory among the heathen. Missions in the psalm. The nations need declaration; the church owes it.
A foundation for global missions in the Psalter.
