नॅशनल ख्रिश्चन कौन्सिलच्या भारतातल्या ख्रिस्ती कामाच्या पुस्तिकेत नोंदलेल्या अनेक परदेशी संस्थांपैकी अमेरिकन बॅप्टिस्टही एक होते. या स्रोतांत त्यांची उपस्थिती एक कथा म्हणून नव्हे, तर एक नोंदवही-नोंद म्हणून दाखल आहे; प्रसिद्ध तेलुगू मिशनच्या स्थापनेचे तपशील दिलेल्या इतिहासांच्या बाहेर असल्याने, खालच्या कालपटात अंदाज न बांधता उघडेच ठेवले आहेत.

- During the great famine of 1876–78, the Ongole missionary John E. Clough took a contract on a stretch of the Buckingham Canal and put famine-stricken Madiga labourers to work for wages, carrying many through the disaster
- Saw one of the largest mass movements in India after the famine — over two thousand people baptised on a single day in July 1878 (some 7,513 that month), with baptised Telugu believers numbering into the tens of thousands within a generation
- The movement spread north across the Telugu country into the Telangana districts of the Nizam of Hyderabad's dominions — Karimnagar, Medak, Mahbubnagar and Nalgonda
