Amy Carmichael

Amy Carmichael

CEZMS, then the Dohnavur Fellowship

Amy Carmichael came to India in 1895 and found her life's work in 1901, when a child fleeing temple dedication reached her. From that single rescue grew Dohnavur, a refuge for children in danger who came to call her mother. A fall in 1931 left her largely confined for the rest of her life, but from that room came book after book, until her death in 1951.

She kept watch at the temple gate like someone counting children no one else thought to count — and then refusing to let the uncounted ones disappear.
