Romans 15 — Whatsoever Things Were Written Aforetime Were Written For Our Learning
We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak. Whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. The God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another. Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us. Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God. Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing. I have fully preached the gospel of Christ from Jerusalem unto Illyricum. I have a great desire to come unto you. Pray for me, that I may be delivered.

As Christ also received us. The measure of Christian acceptance. He received us in our worst state; we receive others on the same terms.
A check on every form of Christian exclusivism. Whom is the church to receive? Anyone Christ has received.
God of hope. He is the source. Hope flows from Him, not from circumstances.
A model prayer. The chapter's theology turns into an intercession for the readers — joy, peace, hope, all from the God of hope through the Spirit.
Verse 13 is a benediction to pray over yourself daily. Now the God of hope fill you... When you wake without joy or peace or hope, the prayer asks the God who supplies them. He is the God of hope; ask Him for some of what He is.
Romans 15 ends Paul's body of teaching with a prayer for joy, peace, and hope in believing. Christ remains the receiver, the minister, the One the Old Testament was written about. The chapter's benediction flows from the Christ at the center of every preceding chapter.
The Old Testament was written for our learning. The Christian inherits the Hebrew Scriptures as instruction, not decoration.
Patience and comfort... hope. The triple effect of Scripture-saturated living. The Bible produces what the Christian most needs.
