Daniel 5 — Thou Art Weighed In the Balances, and Art Found Wanting
Belshazzar made a great feast to a thousand of his lords. They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, of silver. The same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaister of the wall. MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. The queen — there is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods. Daniel — thou hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this. Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting. Thy kingdom is divided. In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain.

The verdict everyone fears. Weighed and lacking. The scale of heaven measures kings and beggars by the same standard.
A line for every soul. Without Christ's righteousness imputed, every life is found wanting. With Him, the scales balance.
Verse 27 measures every life that has not received Christ's righteousness. The scales of heaven are not graded on a curve. The only weight that balances is Christ.
Belshazzar was found wanting; Christ was found worthy (Revelation 5:9). The believer is weighed in His balance, covered in His righteousness, and not condemned.
Though thou knewest all this. Belshazzar had heard the story of Nebuchadnezzar's humbling. Knowing did not produce humility.
A warning. Hearing of others' falls without humbling oneself is its own sin. The verse exposes lesson-ignoring religion.
